Rituals Fortune Scrub
My parents got divorced a few years ago. As a kid I always celebrated the fact that I was the only one of my friends who actually had parents that had stuck together but if truth be told I think that in many ways my parents did it for me and my sister. They loved each other without a doubt and there were a lot of good times but there was also tension and I sometimes feel sad that they didn’t end things sooner. It takes guts to remain in an unhappy marriage for the sake of your kids but it’s also important to put your needs first.
I always imagined that dealing with the demise of your parents’ marriage would be easier as an adult but it really was and in some ways still is harder than I ever could have imagined. Everything that I had ever known was suddenly thrown up in the air….family Christmases and gatherings would never be the same again, the pain and angst felt by my mother tore me apart and at the beginning I felt like I was in the middle of it all, providing emotional support for my family and not really giving myself time to mourn my loss.
Things have settled a bit now and although certain aspects remain hard, my parents seem to be in a much better place. In fact, my Dad is getting re-married on Valentine’s Day. His future wife has two kids from a previous marriage which means that I’m now going to have a step sister and brother. My future step-sister in particular has made me feel incredibly old. She’s 15, has a figure to die for, luscious hair and glowing skin. She has the gift of youth and has inadvertently made me reach for my anti-wrinkle creams like a woman possessed. I’ve been looking at my post-pregnancy body in a new way. There isn’t much I can do about my caesarian scar or about the fact that my boobs aren’t quite as perky as they were but I can work hard to make the best of what I have.
One simple thing that I’ve been doing is using a great body scrub when I shower. It’s from Rituals and is their Fortune Scrub which is on offer at the moment. What I love about this citrussy treat is that it exfoliates whilst also having a really creamy texture which means that it also can double up as a shower gel. I squirt a bit on my shower puff a few times a week and work it into my body. The result is that my skin is much softer and looks less dull and grey and I feel a bit shinier in a good way. The little things eh!
